MOSCOW is the city to be visited. It is one of the oldest and most gorgeous cities in the world. Moscow has a long and enthralling history. The city has been completely destructed and rebuilt anew many times throughout the centuries. Each time the city was resurrected from the ashes, it grew additional and further captivating. The most gifted and renowned architects were invited from all over the world to restore Moscow. Therefore, Moscow places of interest are truly well worth seeing. At present Moscow is the city where the past and the present live side by side in reciprocal tolerance and respect. Nearby old monasteries and cathedrals, there tower over modern shopping centres and skyscrapers. But, first and foremost, Moscow is the very centre of the Russian history. Red Square - the symbol of the metropolis - is the most famous city square in Moscow and, probably, one of the best-known in the world. The square separates the Kremlin, the former royal fort and now the official residence of Russia's President, from a historic merchant area known as Kitai-gorod. As the principal Moscow streets radiate from here in every direction, Red Square is normally considered the central square of Moscow and of the Russian Federation. Resurrection Gate is the only existing gate of the Kitai-gorod in Moscow. It joins the north-western end of Red Square with Manege Square and gives its name to Voskresenskaya Square (differently called Resurrection Square) located nearby. Just in front of the chapel there is a bronze plaque marking kilometre zero of the Russian highway system. Alexander Garden is one of the first public parks in Moscow. It spans along the western Kremlin wall in front of the Moscow Manege. The State Historical Museum of Russia is a museum of Russia's history placed between Red Square and Manege Square. There are exhibitions of relics of the prehistoric people that live on the territory of present-day Russia as well as valuable masterworks of art acquired by the members of the Romanov family. The total number of objects in the collection exhibited in the museum numbers in millions. The Cathedral of Basil the Blessed is a Russian Orthodox cathedral towering above in Red Square. It was built to commemorate the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan, and these days symbolises the geometric heart of Moscow and the hub of its growth.
