Fashion is an art reflecting life. From time to time we hear the names of Nina Rici, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Versace etc. There designers have a great influence on our hair styles, how we dress up, the way we put on make-up and even behave. Every season gurus of fashion determine our choices of clothing. There are several very significant events in the fashion calendar called fashion weeks. Fashion weeks are organized every season for designers to demonstrate their latest collections in runway shows and for customers to view the latest trends. Most importantly, they exhibit the fashion industry what is in and what is out for the season. The largest fashion weeks are arranged in the fashion capitals, including Milan, London, New York and Paris where luxury clothes (differently called haute couture) are demonstrated. Haute Couture is a French word combination for expensive and fashionable clothes. Couture stands for dressmaking, sewing, or needlework and haute denotes elegant. Haute couture garments are made for a specific customer from high-quality, expensive fabrics and sewn by hand normally deploying time-consuming techniques. This is why, couture items are luxurious and chic. Depending on the haute couture and the garment, the cost of a couture item ranges from $10, 000 for a blouse to $40, 000 and commonly beyond that amount. The price includes payments for the service, work, exclusivity and first-class fabrics of the finest quality. Moreover, every customer will receive a garment to fit them well. It takes approximately 100-150 hours to create a handmade suit and up to 1000 hours for an embellished evening dress with thousands of beads sewn by hand. A couture house like Chanel, for instance, will have about 150 regular clients buying couture clothes, and a couture house like Dior will make about 20 luxury wedding dresses yearly. Alongside clothes, renowned couture houses make luxury accessories, including hats, buttons, belts, jewelry, shoes, handbags. Those who can afford luxury clothes, pay for exclusivity and the privacy guaranteed by the system.
