| If you’ve never been, London’s 100% Design Show is well worth a trip into the city. The 2009 version of this popular event is fast approaching, but I’m still jazzed about my finds from the 2008 show.
As the Bard would have said, let me first set the stage. A bewildering array of top designers and manufacturer’s from the UK and the world; hundreds of displays and dozens of countries represented. Fabulous food abounds and culture vultures lurk amidst the press, buyers and designers. Many of the displays prominently featured pieces for that most important of rooms, the bedroom. I became enthralled with a Bed that was featured at one of these displays and after a shameless display of begging, managed to convince the staff manning the booth to sell it to me and help load the thing into my Chelsey tractor when the show was over and the traffic wardens were suitably distracted. You may have seen a bed like this one in finer stores recently, but trust me, I had it first.
Beyond the bedroom, there was no shortage of unusual finds to be had. From my perspective, standouts included the “green” (green as in unlikely to provoke a fit from Sienna Miller) faux stone offerings from ArmourCast, Stephen Johnson’s “Isn’t That Lovely” series, lighting by Ulrika Jarl and a captivating little wind-powered LED light by Jason Bruges Studio. Sam Johnson (related to Stephen?) won the prize for Best Interior Product for his Net Chair while Camira Fabrics took home a prize for Sustainable Design Product.
If you missed last year’s show, I’d suggest you make plans now to be at Earl’s Court in September.
Marley Masters, the Oxfordshire-based designer for the stars, is still happy with his new Bed. When he isnt busy in London working on transforming the look of a flat, he can often be found entertaining clients from his glamorous studio.
