For the Snider’s of Gurley, AL, the addition of a carport to their home proved to be a family bonding experience that they will live with for many years to come. When they made the decision to add a carport garage to the landscape of their home which sits alongside a mountain, they knew they needed something durable that did not detract from the beauty of their rural surroundings. They chose to buy a steel metal carport from a company in Virginia Beach, VA that met their standards of country living. The steel metal carport kit that they used is built to withstand a wide range of climate conditions through its unique clear-span, single radius, low-profile arched structure that is supported by a 14 gauge beams and posts system. This design provides security and durability against things like snow and hurricane force winds. The addition of Galvalume Plus coating provides years of maintenance-free use, which means that Snider’s won’t ever have to worry about treating, painting, or maintaining their metal carport. Putting their steel metal carport kit together was an all-hands-on-deck project for the family, and together, they had it up in no time. “We put the carport together as a family, and it wasn't extremely difficult,” says Dominique Snider. “The guide and building plans were detailed and easy to understand, and we had the carport up and running within two days.” “Most of our customers assemble and raise the posts, beams, and panels to complete the construction of their metal carport kit without a contractor,” says Michelle Wickum, marketing director for SteelMaster Buildings, which sold the Snider’s their carport. “Each of our metal carport comes with an easy-to-read and detailed construction manual to aid our customers in construction, and a SteelMaster Building Specialist and our Customer Service Representatives are also available should they have any questions during any phase of the assembly process.” Once completed, the Snider’s carport was the talk of the neighborhood. “We have received many compliments from neighbors and friends about the recent addition to our home,” says Dominique. “They were surprised to hear we put it together ourselves and that the company was so helpful.” Compliments and construction aside, Dominique’s still had a major hurdle to conquer when it came to the new carport. “Since we live on a mountain, it was hard to find a place to position the carport, but we found a pretty good spot and it works well,” says Snider. “It just took me some time to learn how to park, but I'm a new driver and it got easier and easier. A few weeks later, I was pulling in and out like a pro.” Brenda is a freelance writer and editor living in Hampton Roads, VA. He is writing about Carport.
